Edinburgh Health Clubs

Spa One Website

Escape Health Clubs
So here we have two five star spas - each a part of a 5 star hotel but also branded separately. Both have won awards, in the case of Spa One quite a number.
Spa One (connected to the Sheraton in Edinburgh) have done an okay job of communicating themselves to potential prospects in information terms although the site strikes me as rather corporate and lacks the zen qulaity of the spa itself. What I do not like is the changing image sizes and the cramped design grid. There is a lot of information on this site, but I felt I had to work very hard to find it; furthermore the designers have chosen to show visited links in the same colours as those unfinished so I keep hitting the same pages by mistake. What I would like to see: a more European quality to the design.

By comparison Escape is a complete mess - and remember these guys are competing against each other - and really fails to communicate what it sells in a persuasive fashion. The health has an amazing stainless steel pool and is high fashion, so why does the design make the whole place look like a provincial, out of town gym.
What do they need to do? New design with a spacious grid built around striking imagery ( and no schtock shots). Rethink the colour palette and communicate a much more urban, cool sense which matches the Scotsman branding as well.
